fMRI feedback for pain reduction
Jason Pontin discusses Omneuron and other start-ups that propose to teach sufferers to think away their pain...and... similarly treat addiction, depression and other intractable neurological and psychological conditions (PDF here).
You can reduce pain for free. Its been around for a long time and you don't have to be stuffed into a coffin to benefit from it (especially if you're claustrophobic!). Its called meditation and it's been proven to have measurable effects.
p.s. Great, all we need is ANOTHER machine to help the marketing industry create excessive and unnecessary wants in an already overindulgent society.
