Does Darwinism have to be depressing?
Robert Wright, author of "The Moral Animal," argues no, in spite of the fact that evolutionary explanations boil our loftiest feelings boil down to genetic self-interest. Morality, along with love and positive emotions, are your genes way of getting you to serve their agenda. Here is a PDF of his essay.

Nice. Wright's so good at finding that bright side. Of course, were we not so red in tooth and claw we might not need love to read others accurately. And ayway, isn't love more famous for making us blind and foolhardy?
ReplyDeleteWhat's Darwinism? Are you refering to The theory of evolution by natural selection? Would you also refer to general relativity as Einsteinism?
