I just learned a new word: Alexithymia, the inability to express feelings with words, or more generally deficiency in understanding, processing, or describing emotions. The condition is associated with less activation of the anterior cingulate cortex, involved in cognitive and emotional processing.
Gu et al. show that the trait is also associated with less efficient voluntary control.
Love your blog ! & just caught this post. Yes, this effect may depend on the cingulate gyrus which seems to be at the crossroads of emotional and attentional control. Stay tuned ... more from our lab coming soon ! Very best, John
